Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2022. Mater Maria Catholic College is now on the Top 150 Schools List and the best overall results the school has ever seen with all students achieving growth.

Congratulations to Charlotte Crouch who achieved the College’s highest ATAR of 97.2, a fantastic effort, and to 18 other students who achieved an ATAR over 90. This equates to an outstanding 17% of all students eligible for an ATAR reaching this benchmark, with five students reaching above 95%.

In 2022, Mater Maria Catholic College has 75 students on the Distinguished Achievers List which is an awesome achievement for a cohort of this size, with every subject area having multiple students listed. This achievement has resulted in the College ranking 140th on the prestigious Sydney Morning Herald’s Top Schools List and equates to 12.4% of all the College’s results. Here are some more notable results from our Class of 2022:

  • 49% of students’ results are in the top two achievement bands (above 80%)
  • 82% of the results are in the top three achievement bands (above 70%)
  • All Drama students excelled with marks 89 or above
  • Our Extension 2 English students results are between 92% – 94%
  • Visual Arts has six distinguished achievers in a class of just 15

As well as this wonderful performance in the HSC examinations, many students were nominated for exemplary major works. Being nominated means that the major work is of the highest possible standard and we congratulate our students and their teachers for these achievements. Congratulations to:

  • Thalia English and Neve Kilbane who were both selected for ArtExpress
  • Sarah Cassidy was nominated for ArtExpress
  • Mitchell Dent, Matthew O’Brien and Noah Wise were all nominated for InTech
  • Milo Browne was nominated for OnStage

We have seen a significant increase on previous year’s results which is largely due to the intensive professional learning focus teachers have had in literacy within their subject areas. Our students have been well supported to maximise their results through collaborative teamwork with their teachers and their friends.  It was a great community effort! We are proud of all students who have seen massive growth over the past 12 months. Congratulations!

These outstanding results were mirrored in Year 9’s NAPLAN results with Mater Maria students achieving an average of over 10 points higher than similar schools in reading and writing. This focus will continue into 2023 with teachers working collaboratively to develop resources in every subject, to take this learning and embed it into common practice across the whole College.

Many of our students gained early university entry, traineeships, apprenticeships and employment before the HSC exams. We are proud of all our students who have worked hard and started the journey on their career pathways.

“I am immensely proud of each student for their persistence over the past few years, and I would like to thank the entire College community for supporting each of our students on their various pathways to success” said the Principal, Marc Reicher.

“I would like to thank all the Year 12 parents and carers for their support and the teachers, especially their Year Coordinator, Michael Rulli, for their dedicated efforts in guiding this wonderful group of young adults. I wish the Graduation Class of 2022 every blessing on their chosen pathway, and I have no doubt that these students will make a significant contribution to our society,” he said.
