Parent Involvement

Parent participation at Mater Maria is foundational and is evident in a range of areas from through the College canteen, working bees, dinner dance coordination, assistance with the Learning Support Department or sporting teams or membership of the Parents in Partnership, College Board or College Board Working Parties.

College Board

The Mater Maria Catholic College Board within the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay is a board of pastoral governance. A model of discernment called ‘sharing wisdom’ has been adopted as the most appropriate form of school governance in the diocese. The College Board listens to the wisdom of the members of their community and their own board membership in order to know how best to lead and serve them.

The purpose of the College Board is to build, strengthen and nourish the College as part of the wider faith community. The College Board is a structure intended to facilitate members of the College and faith community to share responsibility for the well being of the whole of the College within the beliefs and values, teachings and traditions of the Church.

The role of the Board is one of stewardship – developing the College in all its facets ‘in trust’ for the faith community. As stewards, the Board Is called, through the Spirit, to serve the faith community by caring for and developing its school community. In this role, members of the Board are called to servant leadership, collectively accepting accountability for the school’s well being.

The College Board is accountable to the Bishop through the Director of Schools. Membership of the College Board is discerned by the local faith community and commissioned by the Bishop. Accepting membership of the College Board is acceptance of a call to the ministry of service within and for the educational enterprise of the Church.

The College Board meets twice per school term.

Parents in Partnership

The Parents in Partnership Committee is the parent representative group within the College and takes an active role in the welcoming of new families into the school, organising community experiences such as social functions, raising day to day issues related to the welfare of students from a parent perspective and coordinating parent education initiatives.

Recent initiatives that have been initiated by the Parents in Partnership Committee include annual working bees, attending to gardening around the College, organising parent functions, the Pre-Loved Uniform Shop and contributing to College planning.

The Parents in Partnership Committee meets each school term.
