Parent participation at Mater Maria is foundational and is evident in a range of areas from through the College canteen, working bees, dinner dance coordination, uniform shop assistance, coordination of the Mater Maria Festival stalls, assistance with the Learning Support Department or sporting teams or membership of the Parents & Friends Association, College Board or College Board Working Parties
The Mater Maria Catholic College Board within the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay is a board of pastoral governance. A model of discernment called 'sharing wisdom' has been adopted as the most appropriate form of school governance in the diocese. The College Board listens to the wisdom of the members of their community and their own board membership in order to know how best to lead and serve them.
The purpose of the College Board is to build, strengthen and nourish the College as part of the wider faith community. The College Board is a structure intended to facilitate members of the College and faith community to share responsibility for the well being of the whole of the College within the beliefs and values, teachings and traditions of the Church.
The role of the Board is one of stewardship – developing the College in all its facets 'in trust' for the faith community. As stewards, the Board Is called, through the Spirit, to serve the faith community by caring for and developing its school community. In this role, members of the Board are called to servant leadership, collectively accepting accountability for the school's well being.
The College Board is accountable to the Bishop through the Director of Schools. Membership of the College Board is discerned by the local faith community and commissioned by the Bishop. Accepting membership of the College Board is acceptance of a call to the ministry of service within and for the educational enterprise of the Church.
The College Board meets twice per school term.
Parents & Friends Association
The Parents & Friends Association is the parent representative group within the College and takes an active role in the welcoming of new families into the school, organising community experiences such as social functions, raising day to day issues related to the welfare of students from a parent perspective, coordinating parent education initiatives and managing the expenditure of the Parents & Friends Association levy.
Recent initiatives that have been initiated by the Parents & Friends Association include annual working bees to attend to gardening around the College, organising parent functions, supporting ongoing purchase of assets and technology and contributing to College planning.
The Parents & Friends Association meets each school term.
